Alloy has two layers here. **Storage** is the file system — folders and files like docs, PDFs, references, and working files. The **knowledge base** is the curated part of storage that AI teammates actively read, search, and reason over to do their work.

Ally has full workspace visibility by default. Other AI teammates only see the folders and tools you give them — enough context to be useful, scoped to their role.

Alloy can connect to outside systems through APIs, MCP servers, and workflow tools. AI teammates can search, update, send, schedule, draft, or escalate work when those actions are approved.

The goal is not another chat window. The goal is AI teammates that can help where real work already happens.

External people your organization engages with — customers, partners, contractors — show up in Alloy as contacts. A contact is a stable identity that stays attached to conversations and records as the relationship continues across channels and over time.
